Rama, Dr. Frederick Lenz

Dr. Frederick Lenz, known to his students as Rama, was an enlightened teacher, author, speaker, and musician. Rama pioneered the teachings of American Buddhism – the essence of Buddhist teachings transmitted in a way uniquely suited to contemporary American society.

Rama formed the school of American Buddhism in the early 1980s, eventually teaching well over 100,000 people Buddhist principles and meditation practices. He authored books and conducted live teaching events on the topics of basic, intermediate, and advanced Buddhist meditation practices to help others attain enlightenment. Rama passed away in 1998, cherished by many who will forever miss his kind heart, generosity in teaching, and bright, humorous spirit.

His teachings are carried on by many of his direct students who studied with him for varying time periods from 1981 to 1998.
